IP Address Lookup
Look up any public IPv4 or IPv6 address to see who operates it, where it is, what kind of network it belongs to and whether it shows signs of abuse.

What an IP lookup tells you
Every device that talks to the internet does so from an IP address, and every public address is allocated to an organization through a regional internet registry. An IP lookup joins that registration record with what is observed about the address on the live internet.
An IPDebrief profile combines several independent signals into one page:
- Ownership — the organization holding the address block, the allocated range and the autonomous system (ASN) that routes it.
- Location — approximate city, region and country.
- Network type — datacenter or cloud, residential broadband, mobile carrier or anycast.
- Anonymizers — whether the address is a Tor exit node, VPN endpoint or open proxy.
- Reverse DNS and hosted domains — hostnames that point at the address.
- Reputation — blocklist presence and a 0–100 risk assessment.
How accurate is IP geolocation?
Country-level location is right for the large majority of addresses. City-level location is an estimate: it is usually close for fixed broadband, coarser for mobile networks (which route traffic through regional gateways) and often meaningless for anycast services such as public DNS resolvers and CDNs, where the same address is served from many cities at once. IPDebrief cross-checks location against network latency where it can, and every profile states when it was last updated.
Common reasons to look up an IP
- Investigating a suspicious login, signup or payment.
- Triaging firewall, web server or intrusion-detection logs.
- Checking whether traffic comes from a cloud server or a real household.
- Identifying the owner of a scanner or crawler hitting your site.
- Verifying that your own server or VPN exit looks the way you expect.
For bulk or automated checks, the same data is available through the IP intelligence API.
Frequently asked questions
Can an IP lookup find a person's home address?
No. Public IP data identifies the network operator and an approximate area, not a street address or a named individual. Only the internet provider can link an address to a subscriber, and it discloses that only under legal process.
Why does the location differ from where the user really is?
Geolocation is inferred from registration and routing data. VPNs, mobile carrier gateways, corporate proxies and anycast networks all make an address appear somewhere other than the person using it.
Is IP lookup free?
Yes. Looking up addresses on the website is free. Programmatic access is available through the API, with higher limits on paid tiers.
Does it work for IPv6?
Yes. Enter any public IPv6 address; it is normalized to its compressed form, for example 2001:4860:4860::8888.
