IPv6 Address Lookup
Look up any public IPv6 address — compressed or fully expanded — to see who operates it, where it is and how it is used.

Reading an IPv6 address
An IPv6 address is 128 bits written as eight groups of four hexadecimal digits, such as 2001:0db8:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0001. Leading zeros in each group can be dropped and one run of zero groups can be replaced with ::, giving the canonical form 2001:db8::1. IPDebrief accepts any valid spelling and redirects to the canonical lowercase form so each address has one page.
How IPv6 differs from IPv4 for lookups
- Huge allocations. A single home connection usually receives a whole /56 or /64 network — billions of addresses — so the network prefix says more than the individual address.
- Rotating addresses. Devices generate temporary privacy addresses that change regularly, so the same visitor appears from many addresses within one /64.
- Neighbours. IPDebrief groups nearby addresses by /48 for IPv6 (instead of /24 for IPv4) when showing related activity.
Special IPv6 ranges
Some prefixes are not routed on the public internet and are never profiled: ::1 (loopback), fe80::/10 (link-local), fc00::/7 (unique local) and 2001:db8::/32 (documentation). Addresses starting with 2 or 3 are global unicast space.
IPv6 and security decisions
Rules that work for IPv4 often fail for IPv6. Blocking or rate-limiting a single IPv6 address is easy to evade, because the same connection can switch to any of billions of addresses in its /64. Apply limits and reputation per /64 for end users, and consider the /48 or the whole allocation for hosting networks that hand customers larger blocks.
Logs need the same care: store the full address, but aggregate by prefix when looking for abuse patterns. Reputation data for IPv6 is also sparser than for IPv4, so network ownership and infrastructure type carry more weight in an IPv6 risk assessment.
Dual-stack visitors may reach you over either protocol. If you see suspicious activity on IPv4 from a network, check its IPv6 space as well — attackers increasingly use IPv6 precisely because fewer defences inspect it.
Frequently asked questions
Is IPv6 geolocation less accurate than IPv4?
It can be. Geolocation data for IPv6 is younger and allocations are larger, so location is most reliable at country level.
Why do I see many different IPv6 addresses from one user?
Privacy extensions make devices rotate their interface identifier. Treat addresses within the same /64 as likely belonging to the same connection.
Does the tool accept expanded IPv6 notation?
Yes. Any valid notation works and is normalized to the compressed canonical form.
Can I look up an IPv6 prefix?
Enter a single address. The profile shows the allocated block it belongs to and links to related networks.
